Our Mission
At Kishuthara, our mission is to preserve and promote this traditional art form while providing a sustainable source of income for the weavers. We believe in fair trade and ensure that our weavers are compensated adequately for their time and effort.
Our Story
Our journey began in the serene village of Khoma, where weaving is not just a craft, but a way of life. Girls as young as seven join their parents to weave, taking between two and three years to master weaving lungserma and kishuthara. The weavers use only the back strap loom (Pangtha), creating a variety of textiles including mentse mathra and aii kapoor.
Our Craft
Every Kishuthara pattern is unique, colorful, and handwoven. It takes almost a year to complete a kira, making each piece a testament to the weaver’s dedication and skill. The price of a silk kisuthara ranges from Nu 30,000 to Nu 350,000 depending on the material used and the intricacy of the pattern.
Our Promise
When you purchase from Kishuthara Fashion, you’re not just buying a piece of clothing – you’re investing in a piece of Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage and the distinctive skills of individual weavers. You’re supporting local artisans and contributing to the preservation of traditional Bhutanese textile art. We promise to keep this living artifact preserved to perpetuity.
Thank you for choosing Kishuthara Fashion. We look forward to serving you with our vibrant, handwoven Kishutharas.
